About Me
Communication and language have engaged and fascinated me since I was a child. My first publication came at age 10, when I quietly submitted a poem to a national children's publication and surprised my family and teachers with a byline.
Later in life, I studied under masters of sentence structure and storytelling at a university in Kentucky. A Pulitzer-nominated mentor once described the depth of my editing as "bordering on mental illness." I wear those words like the strange and shiny badge they are. I served as an editor for our undergraduate literary magazine during my time there and fell forever in love with working hard to get a sentence just right, whether it belongs to me or another writer.
After school, I learned on my feet how to apply literary principles of effective and beautiful writing to journalism, PR and marketing. I took jobs with small-town rags, signed on to string for mid-sized print papers and pitched high and low to find homes for my writing. I have fiction bylines at journals that celebrate the art of literature and pay in atta-boys, and I’ve earned journalism bylines that have paid my bills.
I’m a PR-minded, diversely experienced writer, and I'm a passionate editor. I’ve worked in print journalism, edited blogs and books, and co-developed a new brand for a public university. Marketing savvy complements my innate literary sensibility; I see stories and ways to package them.
Extracurricular activities
NATURE
I find my flow in nature.
Whenever possible, I spend a little time alone outside in the morning before I do anything else--consider it a standing meeting I have with myself.

MUSIC
I read music as early as I read words.
I listen to music. I play music. I attend concerts.
I think my musician's ear is an asset to my writing. It's in the rhythm.
